Open Government
WHAT NEEDS TO CHANGE IN THE TOWN OF EVANS?
What You Need To Know
Under state law, Evans residents have a right to know how the town board spends every nickel of their tax dollars. How much does the town spend on engineers? Lawyers? At every town board meeting, a vote to pay the bills is approved without providing any details to residents.

When the candidates ask for your vote, ask them if they will offer a resolution to disclose a detailed list of bills to be paid. If you only have one wish to make Evans more transparent, full disclosure of how taxpayer’s money is being spent should be #1 on your list.
Here are a few more open government suggestions:
- Get the residents’ concerns on spending projects BEFORE the engineers start work on projects.
- The million dollars + spent on the pool is a good example
- The $268,900 splash pad is another example [ Click Here! ]
- Follow the Freedom Of Information Law ( FOIL )
- Disclose the total spending and current debt for the water project
- Post all contracts on the town’s website before the town board votes
- End the practice of suspending the rules and then voting to approve a resolution without providing the required by law 24 notice
- Disclose how much debt the town has.
- Every time the town borrows more money for the water project, the debt repayments are reset to 30 years. Our children and grandchildren will be paying for our poor choices.
When NYS audited Elma, the state told them they had too much money in the bank and recommended they lower taxes. The town’s response was that they did not have town taxes!
