New Era, Evans National Bank Headquarters, H&K, and many others have left Evans. Catalano Motors was sold and the Evans operation shut down.
Evans is a $20 million dollar operation run by “middle managers” at best and without anyone with true CEO / COO experience.
If town did, they would understand the following:
Acquiring a new customer can cost five times more than retaining an existing customer. Increasing customer retention by 5% can increase profits from 25-95%. The success rate of selling to a customer you already have is 60-70%, while the success rate of selling to a new customer is 5-20%. [ Click Here! ]
In government terms, the town should “ask” businesses already in town what they need. Evans needs to focus on the needs of the businesses already here and less time on finding new businesses.
With a declining population and very high town & school taxes, uncontrolled spending on the water project (Elma’s water bill is $28.33!), other towns will almost always be a more attractive option. An Evans IDA sounds good but without county & state tax breaks, a local IDA would have little to offer. The town already has a PILOT (Payment In Lieu Of Taxes) program available to prospective businesses.

The Republicans propose a full-time marketing team. It is curious that in Point #1, they state that elected officials don’t need to be in the town hall! Most of 2023 has the inmates running the asylum. Little is accomplished when the managers are not on the job.

Some of the highest taxes in Erie County, a declining population, and the perception that Evans is a difficult town to deal with must be addressed first. Getting sewers to the Thruway Exit and the marina would make sense but no current board member could be bothered working on the paperwork and applying for grant funding. Some towns shoot themselves in the foot. Evans officials use a cannon!
Since both political parties mostly talk in generalities, EvansNY.News rates this point a tie.
