Setting up an Evans IDA sounds like a great idea. The problem is that an IDA’s main incentive is tax breaks! A Pilot Program’s tax breaks generally last for ten years.
Do you really want to wait for ten years for tax relief?
With 12.5 miles of waterfront, focusing on recreation & tourism would bring better results sooner. How about bigger & better improvements at the Sturgeon Point Marina? If someone at town hall had filled out the paperwork to get sewers to the marina, investors would build a hotel. If we had a hotel, Evans would get a national fishing tournament here!
In the past, the town chased out the Hobie Caters and the windsurfers. The town should focus on waterfront access for non-power craft.
Youth tournaments bring in millions of dollars per event. Why not make Wendt Beach Park the best youth soccer facility in WNY?
When people come to Evans, business will follow. We don’t need an IDA. We need to make the town an attractive tourist destination! There should be some event every weekend.
