Prior to Mary Hosler, town board meetings were conducted very differently.
Residents could speak at the beginning and at the end of meetings. Now you can only speak for 3 minutes (if what is said is favorable) at the beginning of the meeting. You can not ask questions about the current meeting until the next meeting. Other towns allow you to raise your hand and ask a question.
The Town Clerk would summarize your statement in the minutes. Mary Hosler ended this practice.
Department heads, excluding the Chief of Police, rarely attend meetings. You can not ask them questions in a public forum.
Prior to Mary Hosler, no sign-up sheets. Sign-up sheets are not saved.
Even though there has never been a security issue, residents must go through a metal detector.
Prior to Mary Hosler, you could write a letter and ask the town clerk to include your letter under communications on the agenda. Now Mary Hosler must approve your letter first!
You could write a letter to the town board and take your letter to the town clerk. After one year, your letter is destroyed!
So how do you get on the public record regarding the Sturgeon Point Marina?
Below is the 7-4-2021 ad on the LWRP. The Town wants your “feedback”!
Unfortunately, your “feedback” is not always made part of the public record. Here is what you do.
Write a letter to the Town of Evans that details your ideas for the Sturgeon Point Marina. You can include your support for re-opening Purvis Landing & Lake Erie Beach Park to non-power watercraft and any other waterfront issue. Ask the Town Clerk to include your letter in the next public hearing for the LWRP. This will make your ideas and concerns part of the public record for the next 20 years! I highly recommend printing several copies of your letter, taking them to the town hall and asking the town clerk to date stamp your letter. Give the clerk one copy and keep the rest.
The LWRP is a document that MUST be approved by the state legislature.
A sad note: The Great Lakes Beach Sweep Coordinator and I documented every public and private waterfront access point from Evangola State Park to the Town of Hamburg. We took pictures and included tax maps showing all the access points. We posted the info online. We attended a meeting in 2017 with Mary Hosler. We sent her a link to review the information. She did not have time to review the info. She still has not reviewed the data. I attended an LWRP meeting. I offered to give the committee the link. They also had no interest. The best way to protect the public’s access to the waterfront is to document it in the LWRP. Visit http://townofevans.com/lwrp/ and see the info the Town of Evans declined to review!
