THE GOOD:
In contrast to 2024, in the first quarter of 2025, the Evans Town Board did not suspend the rules to vote on resolutions without the proper notice required by state law. In 2024, the town board improperly voted 23 times [ Click Here ] without allowing residents to ask questions. Transparency is always a good thing.
THE BAD #1:
If DOGE came to the Town of Evans, I’d point them to the senior center. The senior center is a sinkhole for taxpayer funds. The town board’s wasteful spending never seems to end. The roof, heating/air conditioning, and solar are just a few examples of why the town should have sold this property and built a new youth/senior center. The town’s outside engineering firm will get another nice paycheck!
THE BAD #2:
Another project I’d ask DOGE to look at is the pool. On a hot summer day, drive by the pool on South Creek Road. It is rare to see a lot of cars there. Now, the town is spending another $603,583 on a pool many residents do not know about. Many poolgoers are from outside the town. The town’s residents would benefit more by funding the marina and town park projects.
THE LEGAL?:
The Evans Town Board awarded another contract for the restaurant at the Sturgeon Point Marina restaurant. Year after year, Evans taxpayers lose money on this lease. Not one board member asked one question about this lease in twenty-plus years. New York officials should look into this contract awarded to a political insider. Question: Is this contract legal and fair to Evans taxpayers?
